Nayu's Project Progress #44 Sunshine sock

 

Here in the UK we are currently having a little heatwave which is wonderful for me as I actually don't need my heated blanket during the day! It's nice not to be permanently cold. Making sure I have refreshing food and drink like chopped melon in pretty My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic cup to stay cool. Also got windows wide open to try and keep my beautiful guinea pigs from overheating. 

Craft wise not done loads recently but when I last had a day for craft I decided to get working on my sock knitting. 

Using 4 needles (3 to hold the stitches, one to knit with) isn't as complex as it looks, I promise. It's just like with 2 needles, only there are extras to go round on. 

You can see the final progress here, will be a slow burning project (which all mine are at the moment) but there is steady progress! Hope you all stay cool in the heat. 

Nayu's Project Progress #39 The blanket grows!

As promised a few posts ago, it's time to show you what I'm working on at the moment! Making a cute blanket for myself with white and cream separating the colours. I tend to work on it a bit in the mornings as I wake up while watching something, as a gentle start to the day.

Apart from the larger area of cream which I can't be bothered to undo, I am doing 2 rows of white/cream between every colour. So far my favourite colour in it is the pink yarn. What's yours? 

Nayu's Craft Time #264 Kind of busy with Life

Peekaboo! Not my kitten but oh so cute!

This is short post as it's almost bed (I'm prescheduling it). Last week was spent mostly getting over my mega meds aka ketamine (yes the stuff vets use for animals, and poplar in A&E), which takes time for the initial and varied effects to wear off. Then I went grocery shopping which also takes time to recover from (a little extra than normal as I'm having to go to a bigger store at the moment).

It's going to be a gaming kind of week!

This week I've got some life stuff going on, which I mentioned a few blog posts ago (I think) in so far as I'm not talking about what's going on. But, a result of it is that for today and tonight only I'm staying in a Hilton hotel! That's the fun side of the life stuff. I'm really looking forward to that part, I'm not taking much to do, just my Nintendo 3DS to keep me occupied, along with my tiny tablet which has ebooks on and some lace yarn with a crochet hook - yes there will be craft! 

This was taken months ago, and the yarn I'm using today is maybe in there. Equally maybe not! It's late and I'm doing this post in a rush.

Tomorrow (Thursday) is a full on day of life stuff, after that I'll be having a few days R&R to recover and decompress. So it probably will be at least 5 days until my next blog post here - I'm sorry! Unfortunately as I'm sure you'll appreciate life happens. ^u^ Just got to revel in the good parts to get through the not so fun parts.

Nayu's Craft Time #191 It be cold!

Cute hanging sloth!

Temperatures are now very much below 10C so I'm imitating a sloth in the activities I do each day (not just eating and sleeping, but resting lots between activities as my body hates the cold and amps up my daily chronic pain). I forgot to take a picture but yesterday I did crochet 4 multicoloured coasters for a friend. I'm still working a blanket, which I'm not sure how big it will become as I don't have lots of balls of yarn, but I'll see how it goes. Picture will be coming soon!

After lunch today I'll be making my 10 minute microwave fudge, possibly white chocolate flavour but not sure yet. Tomorrow I'm hoping to do a bit more blog work, but for the rest of today I'll be gaming lots and hopefully doing some crochet if I'm up for it after the fudge. 

Stay as warm as you can during this cold spell! I'm currently envious of those of you living in the southern hemisphere and who are experience spring rather than autumn!

Nayu's Craft Time #41 The Tale of the Travelling Yarn

This is no ordinary yarn...

Today this ball of yarn (before it got used) went on a little journey. First stop was a doctor's waiting room. Because I prefer to re-roll yarn into a ball, I sat and did just that while waiting for my routine appointment. I nearly rolled it all up, but, as often is the case when I get to the end of a ball (while winding) it got a little muddled up. It sort of looked like a string game called Cat's Cradle which I played when I was young.

I got called in before I could untangle it, so I popped it back in my bag and there it sat for over an hour. Appointment was fine :) The next time I got my yarn out was when I popped in to see my old work colleagues. It's a bit weird to think that I finished work a week ago. It both feels much longer and much shorter than that. I fully enjoyed catching up with my colleagues, who are my friends.

Out came the yarn when I had to wait for my manager to finish seeing someone. I managed to detangle it – whoohoo! I did 3 sides of the first row (which creates the square), then popped the yarn back in my bag since my manager was then free.

The yarn popped back out once I'd got home, and I crocheted one and a half squares for fingerless gloves which will be for me ^o^ Now I've had my post lunch rest I'll be back to working on a summery blanket, as soon as I've blogged, written a little, and done some reading.

I hope you like the tale of my travelling yarn. Small crochet projects are super portable. I do need to keep a pair of scissors permanently in my bag, as I didn't have any to cut the yarn if I got far enough ahead that I made 1 glove (I didn't), but want to be sure that won't be an issue in the future.

I actually have this cute bunny ear scissors with paperclips, although they don't stand look quite like the tip of this carrot!

There will be no travelling yarn tomorrow or Thursday, as they are planned days at home, but yarn will be travelling on Friday to visit a friend, so I may have another short tale for you then!

Nayu's Craft Time #39 Dishcloth Mission

 

As promised in yesterday's post today I'm chatting about my dishcloths.

Tuesday night I'd started making a dishcloth from a ball of Lily's sugar and cream 100% cotton yarn. I wanted to make 2 from the same ball as I know it can be done. So after winding it into a ball (I always do this with yarn as the original ball sometimes tangles or isn't like a sphere) I then unwound it and started a new dishcloth at the other end.

I haven't got a picture showing this process. Once I got to the point of having a little yarn left, I began figuring out what type of border I could do that would make the yarn last for both dishcloths. I undid the last row & tried a new border definitely over 5 times. I was determined to make it work! It's nice having enough time to be able to experiment - here's what I came up with! 

It's roughly 7 inches/18 cm, and this time I've added a handy loop so you can hang them up - they aren't just practical, they look pretty too! All dishcloths made from now will have a loop. These will be on sale soon, along with other colour combinations.

Nayu's Project Progress #1 Here's what I've been up to!

I know it's technically summer, but to me it feels more like Spring with the current temperature. Kind words are like Spring days - they make me feel warm and gooey!

I've opted to call this something different to my Nayu's Crochet Time posts because although they can be about anything, I feel having a specific type of post for my current projects is a good idea. So welcome to the first of many Nayu's Project Progress posts! Must add a tab thing at the top of the blog for it.

This week has been a bit crazy, which seems to be the norm at the moment, but that didn't stop me from playing both with yarn and thread.

On the yarn side of things I did a bit more on my current commissioned piece - I don't have a latest photo, but a few more squares and I'll have the correct width for a 4 foot bed. It crochets up relatively fast and will have another update in a few days time. 

I began a new blanket for a friend who needs a pick-me-up - I initially was going to make all the squares the same, with 1 white row for every 2 coloured rows, but an idea sparked for the 90% colour square and I like it enough to alternate the two.

I've also done some sewing - excuse the quality of the second picture, I was in a rush when I took it and so far haven't had time to take another. This is a cute bookmark for me, made in counted cross stitch from the Emily Button range whch is super cute & girly. Using white thread on white background involves more concentration than coloured thread, but I'm getting closer to finishing this small project. Yay!

Here's the progress Imade with the white thread-I worked on the outline for both the trousers and the dress so that I can sew the rest without needing to look at the pattern.

Nayu's Craft Time #25 Shiny yarn!

The yarn isn't literally shiny, but, like with any yarn lover, all yarn is shiny! These two came all the way from the USA. I thought I'd give them a try for dishcloths, since they say they are kitchen yarn. With alternate rows of white and mustard yellow I think the dishcloths will be rather smart. 

Once again I'd planned to write about some of the crochet books I've received this week (still waiting for 2) but it's late afternoon, and after only just avoiding a migraine yesterday I'm feeling drained. I've done a fair amount of crochet, can you show you these lovely squares which are for the final blanket in my Spring collection (coming soon!). 

I hope to do a little more of my competition piece tonight, which is also growing nicely, but first I'll be reading. Often after a migraine/almost migraine for a while I crave things which don't move and aren't brightly coloured. I've watched both human drama and anime today, which may be why I want to steer clear of it now - I've had my fill! Time to dive into the world of spy dogs, Amish country, dystopian royalty, friendship and ever so much more, as well as shiny yarn, both in the books I read and in the crochet I do! ^o^
