Nayu's Craft Time #37 Life!

Will things look better this way up?
I'd planned to make this a progress report post, but life has been a bit hectic and I've needed more rest time than crochet time. I can honestly say I didn't expect my week and a bit of week to be so crazy, but perhaps I should I have known better than to expect it to be smooth.

If you can bear with me until 1st July (or maybe the 2nd, if I need to take a day to adjust to my new life), I promise there will be lots of exciting posts for you to read as I dive into new crochet techniques and create plenty of crochet dreams to fill your life with!

Nayu's Craft Time #36 Crochet schedule!

With July fast approaching, I'm contemplating what my flexible crochet schedule could be like. It has to be flexible because of my health, but since I know roughly what I can do on good and not so great days, I can satisfy the part of me which thrives on routine by creating a crochet timetable for any kind of day. A day without a schedule fills me with terror - it can be a loose one like 'only watch anime and read' but I must have one.

Good days for me mean I'm able to think for a few hours, which is essential for some kinds of blog posts – both craft and non-craft. Those are the days when I can write more – which since I'm trying to get my novels published takes a bit more priority than crochet. However, to maximise the benefits of a good day I need to take breaks, and since crochet isn't reading it's a perfect activity to take breaks from writing with! Besides, I can easily listen to audiobooks while I crochet ^o^ I'll watch anime too!

On my not so great days when I don't have much brain power crochet really comes into it's own. While it won't be a time for learning new techniques, something else that is for more of a good day, I can practice stitches I know well and concentrate on building stock for my shop. Again audiobooks are more ideal than dvds since I don't have to pay attention to anything except the crochet, which doesn't move as films and anime does.

Here's my daily schedule from July first:

Days with brain power

I know it says spring but good days I can feel like an energetic hopping bunny!
Whenever I wake up until lunch
Focus on working on novel with crochet breaks, either easy crochet or start learning a new technique

Lunch
2-3 hours of anime (mandatory rest)
1 hour social media-ing & emails
1 hour gaming

Evening
do whatever I feel like (reading/sewing/crochet etc)

 Days with less brain power
Days when I'd love to snooze and do nothing, but I have to do something to stay awake & ticking over.
Whenever I wake up until lunch:
Focus on resting with audiobooks, crochet I know, lots of anime

After lunch:
2-3 hours of anime (mandatory rest)
1 hour social media-ing, emails & a bit of blogwork as needed
1 hour gaming

After dinner:
Lots of restful activities – easy crochet/anime/dvds ok

Other days

It's entirely possible that I'll rarely have a day like my schedules, choosing to spend some reading all day, or being in a writing frenzy, or ignoring everything except for my hook and yarn, but the schedules them makes me happy which is all that matters. I'm much more flexible now than I used to be, and no longer freak out if the day doesn't go as planned. It still annoys me, but it can't be helped when my plan doesn't mesh with God's plan!

Oh, I may write a second part to this post, because on reflection I'd quite like a colourful print out which I can pin up to remind myself of what my day may look like - that and schedule templates are cute likes this one!

Nayu's Craft Time #35 Changes plans = good! & new item for sale!

This is kind of how I feel - my changes aren't better, they are just different to what I've been doing

Changed plans = good!
This week I've been doing a lot of thinking, what with 1st July coming up in just a few weeks which means not long til I can focus each and every day (with some days off) purely on my crochet & writing. The minor problem I've come across is that despite wanting to make anime specific crochet blankets, using colours of outfits/hair and symbols in the show, I'm realising that the blankets I'm currently making aren't anime related.

That isn't a bad thing - I love each and every blanket I make regardless where the idea for the colour combination came from. So for the meanwhile I won't have specific anime blankets, some blankets will simply be inspired by colour combinations from anime, if that makes sense. Item titles in my shop will reflect this, and in time I'll tweak blog posts which are already up on here.

New item for sale!
So the second part of the title isn't strictly true since I don't have the new item up for sale yet, but I can tell you what it is. For a while I've been thinking of having smaller, lower priced items in my shop. While there are lots of things I could do - hair accessories, home accessories, none of the ideas I've already seen online felt like they completely suited me. That's not to say I won't try hair accessories in the future, as they look fun. I'm going to focus on fingerless gloves!
These are well worn ^o^
I'm hoping I can start selling them in July, as I need to figure out how to make larger sizes, and how to measure the current size I use for me. Saying 'Nayu size' won't be helpful! They will primarily be for girls & women, since that's the colour range I opt for, but anyone can wear them if they like them. I hope to add some cute charms from the books I've bought to jazz them up.

That's it for today - I'm off to crochet! Bye for now.

Nayu's Project Progress #1 Here's what I've been up to!

I know it's technically summer, but to me it feels more like Spring with the current temperature. Kind words are like Spring days - they make me feel warm and gooey!
I've opted to call this something different to my Nayu's Crochet Time posts because although they can be about anything, I feel having a specific type of post for my current projects is a good idea. So welcome to the first of many Nayu's Project Progress posts! Must add a tab thing at the top of the blog for it.

This week has been a bit crazy, which seems to be the norm at the moment, but that didn't stop me from playing both with yarn and thread.
I just happened to take the photo on my smaller bed
On the yarn side of things I did a bit more on my current commissioned piece - I don't have a latest photo, but a few more squares and I'll have the correct width for a 4 foot bed. It crochets up relatively fast and will have another update in a few days time.

I began a new blanket for a friend who needs a pick-me-up - I initially was going to make all the squares the same, with 1 white row for every 2 coloured rows, but an idea sparked for the 90% colour square and I like it enough to alternate the two.

Before I started the bookmark looked like this
I've also done some sewing - excuse the quality of the second picture, I was in a rush when I took it and so far haven't had time to take another. This is a cute bookmark for me, made in counted cross stitch from the Emily Button range whch is super cute & girly. Using white thread on white background involves more concentration than coloured thread, but I'm getting closer to finishing this small project. Yay!
Here's the progress Imade with the white thread-I worked on the outline for both the trousers and the dress so that I can sew the rest without needing to look at the pattern.

Nayu's Craft Time #34 Sirdar Baby Crofter Hazel

I adore Sirdar Crofter range, both the standard DK and the Baby version. Imagine my delight when I found Sirdar Baby Crofter Hazel shade on significant sale! I'm planning a simple and cute blanket which will go for sale on my Etsy store ^o^ Until then there's other cute blankets to browse and buy!

Sorry for such a short post - ended up with a bit of a migraine at the weekend which put halt to Sunday's blogging plans >_<

I didn't win anything in Deramore's blog competition but you can check out the winning entries here!
